Rain Dances is the fifth studio album by English progressive rock band Camel. It was released in 1977 on Gama Records/Decca Records, and brought a major change to the band's lineup, by replacing bassist Doug Ferguson with ex-Caravan member Richard Sinclair and by adding saxophonist Mel Collins, formerly of King Crimson. But Rain Dances is pretty evenly split between complexity and commerciality - opening instrumental "First Light" recalls the prog glories of Camel's earlier albums, and the rather ambient instrumental piece "Elke" includes guest keyboards by ambient godfather Brian Eno himself. Still, the undeniably poppy "Highways of the Sun" proved mainstream enough to be released as a single, and "One of These Days I'll Get an Early Night" is a venture into funky jazz fusion, with Collins' sax coming to the fore  .

Rain Dances possesses a more jazzy sound than the previous albums. That is mostly thanks to Sinclair's appearance, but also because of the band's aim to change their musical direction and molding the music into a more commercial smoothness.
