The Nolans' official music video for 'I'm In The Mood For Dancing'. As featured on The Best Of The Nolans.

The Nolans are an Irish girl group who formed in 1974 as The Nolan Sisters, before changing their name in 1980. They are best known for their hit single "I'm In the Mood for Dancing". Released in December 1979, the song reached number three in the UK in February 1980 and topped the Japanese charts in November 1980. Selling over 25 million records, they are one of the world’s biggest selling girl groups.

The 50 Best Albums Of 2018. 2019 thus far has seen a glut of great albums including the brilliant debut from slowthai, the mellow vocals of Cate Le Bon and the tripped out soul of The Internet's Steve Lacy. The British electro-pop outfit's seventh album is filled with the sort of blissful dance-floor tracks that you'd expect from the musicians behind crowdpleasers like 'Ready for the Floor'. While you can hear their exuberant and technicolour sound in tracks like 'Melody of Love' and 'Positive', they tread new ground in the weirdness of numbers like the 'Clear Blue Skies' and 'Why Does My Mind', which toe the line between joy and melancholy.

The Nolans, sometimes billed as The Nolan Sisters are siblings born in Ireland and the United Kingdom who reached the peak of their success as a singing act in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Best of all is the lightness and nuance to Julia Cumming’s vocals – a quality that adds more texture and emotion than the dishevelled indie nonchalance of their predecessors. Despite the rock pedigree involved, this is not an exercise in raw power as per the Stooges album of 1973, but rather a vein of weathered chanson like that explored on 2009’s Préliminaires, where Iggy went highbrow. When your love of life is an empty beach, don’t cry, he sings on Chocolate Drops. The lyrics are as bare as Iggy’s legendary torso.

Best of all, they have the songs to match their grand ideals. Mixing '70s MOR, '80s disco and funk with their trademark art-rock, they address the current state of the world, all the while sounding a bit like an overdriven ABBA (in the best possible way). It might be the end of the world, but Arcade Fire are still going to throw a party.
