Elvis Perkins - I Aubade flac album

Elvis Perkins’ third album is the closest he’s come to getting all of himself on record. It was largely recorded at home with him handling all the instruments. It’s a somewhat lo-fi collection, recorded in part on four-track tape machines. Perkins’ voice can be easily heard, but is often accompanied by additional vocals that wander through the mix, along with found sounds and random noises that create the feeling that other music is bleeding through old recording tape

I can get behind most of the quirks of this album, but I am disappointed that it isn't more of him solo. The breathy, cloying backup vocals make some songs actually hard to listen to. Where I might have liked another group of girls backing this record, there's no chemistry here.

Released in 2015, I Aubade finds Perkins taking greater control of his music than ever before - he produced the album himself, recorded much of it at home, played many of the instruments on his own, and released the final product on his own label, Mir Records.
