Over 30 years since its original release sees the a keenly awaited repress of this 2 CD collection: as essential and highly praised 80’s album – An Inward Revolution. It was originally released on MCA Records with three resulting singles. The band owe their existence to Paul Weller, who offered through a competition in Smash Hits magazine the prize of singing backing vocals with The Jam. Vocalist Julie Hadwen entered the competition and received a phone call from Paul Weller inviting her to meet him at his studio. There he put her together with songwriter Tony Burke and the band was born

The Big Sound Authority weren’t just about high powered anthems though, their ability to craft some lovely ballads and torch songs had to be applauded and slotting in Loverama as the second track was a master stroke. 30 years since its original release it’s actually difficult to believe that there were only three singles lifted from the album, the reason probably being an affectionate over-familiarity – it was played over and over and over. When Things Fall Apart is sheer poetry  . All words by Paul Scott-Bates. More of Paul’s writing on Louder Than War can be found at his author’s archive.

It’s thirty years since the first release of An Inward Revolution on MCA, an album that scored The Big Sound Authority three single releases. The band came together after a competition in Smash Hits (a British pop magazine) had vocalist Julie Hodwen singing backing vocals with The Jam. The Jam’s Paul Weller put Hodwen together with songwriter Tony Burke and so The Big Sound Authority were bor. vaguely remember them. Here, this two CD collection, out on Cherry Red has the bands original album and the 7″ releases on one CD and their 12″ releases and B sides on the second
