Elastic is the Winspear label debut of Amy O, the namesake of songwriter Amy Oelsner. Having started recording songs in . fashion in the 2000s as a teenager, she expanded from solo voice and ukulele to a full, plugged-in band by the time of its 2016 predecessor, Arrow. Recorded in her adopted base of Bloomington, Indiana, that album was mastered by Mike Bridavsky, an area musician and studio jack-of-all-trades (and owner of Internet cat/recording artist Lil BUB). A year later, for Elastic, Oelsner enlisted Bridavsky to produce, and brought along a band, including a keyboardist

Elastic' is an album about learning to live in your own inescapable skin- a challenge that defines not just Amy's life, but everybody's existence. Identifying that universal truth has shaped Amy into an exciting and insightful artist, one who is no longer making music for herself but is working to command whatever stage she steps onto. I always had an aversion to being a girl onstage with a guitar singing quiet songs. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but I always knew I wanted to do something with a bit more volume, a bit more anger.

Amy Oelsner has been putting out music for over a decade now under the name Amy O, and the project has followed her through her Arkansas hometown and through to Ohio, Massachusetts, Brooklyn, and most recently.

While Amy Oelsner has been independently releasing home-recorded music since 2004, Elastic, her second studio album, showcases a notable shift in gears. Her trademark lo-fi pop is in full effect, but here she’s also plucky, fierce, and muscular. Lavender Night melds stabbing, driving guitars with uneasy, minor-key bridges, while Spill and Spacey Feeling employ vocal layering and distortion to magnify her gutsy voice. But with the twinkling David, she doesn’t stray too far from her dream-pop roots.
