Three Man Army was a British hard rock band active in the first half of the 1970s. The group was formed by Adrian Gurvitz and Paul Gurvitz, formerly of The Gun. Following the band's dissolution, Adrian played with Buddy Miles and Paul played with Parrish & Gurvitz, then reunited as Three Man Army. Their debut album, A Third of a Lifetime, featured several drummers, including Miles, Carmine Appice (of Vanilla Fudge) and Mike Kellie (from Spooky Tooth).

The well-in-demand session drummer, Tony Newman, was recruited for the recording of "Three Man Army" and "Three Man Army II" in 1973. Previously, Newman garnered experience and reputation on the rock scene with Jeff Beck, David Bowie and Chris Spedding, as well as having been a member of May Blitz. As a result, the Gurvitz brothers abandoned this project altogether, and instead embarked on yet another venture, the brand new Baker Gurvitz Army, featuring legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker. Later, the duo also played on two records by ex-Moody Blues drummer Graeme Edge, in the mid-70s: "Paradise Ballroom" and "Kick Off Your Muddy Boots".

Three Man Army biography Following hot on the heels of the demise of their former band Gun, THREE MAN ARMY was formed in 1970 by brothers Adrian Gurvitz and Paul Gurvitz. Their initial effort A Third of a Lifetime appeared on Pegasus Records the following year, featuring contributions by drummers Buddy Miles, Mike Kellie and Carmine Appice. Tony Newman would eventually join as the permanent sticksman for the rest of the lifespan of this Britsh power trio. Just over 30 years later an epilogue of sorts would appear in the shape of the album Three Man Army Three, issued by German label Revisted Records.
