Subs are an English punk band, among the earliest in the first wave of British punk. Formed in 1976, the mainstay of the band has been vocalist Charlie Harper, originally a singer in Britain's R&B scene. They were also one of the first street punk bands. Subs were part of the original punk movement in England. The band formed in 1976, initially using the name the Subversives.

L is the opening track from Monuments' third album Phronesis, and the album’s lead single. The song was released on August 3rd, 2018, and features Anup Sastry on drums. Anup left the band before the album’s release, but recorded all of the drum parts beforehand. Lyrically, the song tells a story of inner turmoil.
