One of the longest tenured Hawkwind veterans to date, Harvey Bainbridge initially joined Hawkwind members Dave Brock and Robert Calvert in 1977 for their Sonic Assassins project. In 1978 he was picked as bass player for Hawklords and reformed Hawkwind with Dave Brock a year later in 1979 when Hawklords had all but disintegrated.

Harvey Frederick Bainbridge (born 24 September 1949, Dorset) is an English bass and keyboard player. He is best known as the bass player and keyboard player in Hawkwind. He initially joined Hawkwind members Dave Brock and Robert Calvert in 1977 in a band called Sonic Assassins in which he played bass guitar. Sonic Assassins was formed by Brock to exist alongside Hawkwind, but to focus on playing local concerts around the South West of England.

This is one really well done spacey-ambient album from Harvey Bainbridge, of Hawkwind-fame. I have the other one he released, namely Interstellar Chaos, but this one is much better. You seriously get the feeling of floating around in the cosmos, when listening to Red Shift. Not that there anything particularily wrong with Interstellar Chaos, but Red Shift is more "mature", so to speak, and more ambient in nature than the other, which is somewhat more experimental, in my opinion. The tracks on Red Shift are so beautyfully crafted that one almost get the feeling that mr. Bainbride made them while actually being in Space. My favorites are the purely ambient one: Cygnus Loop, Blue Giant and Horseshoe & The Swan. The others are also very excellent, by the way. On this album, Harvey Bainbridge shows a unique and extremely competent musical view of deep space. Thanks for this great album, which is rather difficult to get ones hands on, unfortunately. K.N.
