The Three Marches Militaires, Op. 51, D. 733, are pieces in march form written for piano four-hands by Franz Schubert. The first of the three is far more famous than the others. It is one of Schubert's most famous compositions, and it is often simply referred to as "Schubert's Marche militaire". It is not certain when the Marches militaires were written: many scholars favour 1818 but some prefer alternative dates such as 1822 or 1824.

Franz Schubert was one of the finest music composers of the 19th century. Schubert love for music grew and so he was given the opportunity to take music lessons from Michael Holzer the church choirmaster and organist. Schubert started to perform before public audiences while he was a part of his father’s string quartet. His involvement in his father’s string quartet gave him the opportunity to write several compositions for their string ensemble. Schubert matured even more in music when he started doing music lessons with Antonio Salieri at the Stadtkonvikt (Imperial Seminary). While at the seminary he was involved in the choir and led the Stadtkonvikt orchestra

Franz Schubert has been added to your Cart. Schiff underlined the point on his ECM New Series album with the C Major fantasies at the end of the 1990s, and he does so again on this remarkable recording, on which two Schubert sonatas, the Musical Moments, four Impromptus (D 935), the Hungarian Melody and an Allegretto are addressed on a period instrument, the fortepiano.

Franz Schubert: Franz Schubert, Austrian composer who bridged the worlds of Classical and Romantic music, noted for the melody and harmony of his works. In 1812 Schubert’s voice broke; he left the college but continued his studies privately with Salieri for at least another three years. During this time he entered a teachers’ training college in Vienna and in the autumn of 1814 became assistant in his father’s school. Rejected for military service because of his short stature, he continued as a schoolmaster until 1818.
