Gorguts - From Wisdom To Hate flac album

Truly, I think that From Wisdom to Hate perfected the sound that Gorguts started with Obscura. Yes, Obscura is said to be the "masterpiece" and I agree that it is an excellent album, but now I am convinced that From Wisdom to Hate left a large open door for what it is to come in the next albums, Coloured Sands and Pleiades' Dust. It is the perfect gateway, and in my own opinion, the best album that Gorguts have composed to this day. Although a slightly new lineup (compared to the lineup in Obscura), the musicianship can be heard throughout the entire album

From Wisdom to Hate is the fourth album by Gorguts, released on March 6, 2001 through Olympic Recordings and Season of Mist. The musical style can be considered a compromise between the previous album Obscura and the older albums Considered Dead and The Erosion of Sanity. This is the only Gorguts album to feature drummer Steve MacDonald. MacDonald had a history of recurrent depression and committed suicide in 2002, which eventually led to the break-up of Gorguts in 2005.

In summary, I'd describe From Wisdom to Hate as a death metal masterpiece that mixes the technicality of Obscura, the riffing and the speed of the band's first two releases, and yes, even some of the wankery that we heard in Obscura. Thankfully, the wankery is in much shorter supply on this album, so it acts more as a pleasant surprise rather than a repetitive nuisance. I feel that the main focus of this album should be the fact that Gorguts was able to take aspects from all of their previous releases, mash them into one technical, brutal album of pure genius, and make it work. Most bands that attempt to fuse elements from previous efforts either fail miserably, or they succeed, at the expense of abandoning their previous signature sounds and losing many fans in the process.

After releasing the extremely challenging Obscura album, Gorguts left fans and critics wondering where they would turn next. Would they continue in that record's aggressively experimental direction, or tone things down to something more in line with the more standard (and less controversial) death metal of their first two albums? From Wisdom to Hate shows the answer to be "both" (or "neither," depending on how you look at it).
