Composer, sound designer, multimedia performer, analog synthesist. After four decades of exploration Todd Barton is still delving deeply into the ever-expanding frontiers of musical expression. His compositions have been performed by the KRONOS Quartet, Oregon Symphony Orchestra, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, the Shasta Taiko, and the Rogue Valley Symphony. Over the years Todd has collaborated with a variety.

The reissue highlights the rich, totally immersive art Ursula K. Le Guin sought to create. Like the novel, Music and Poetry of the Kesh pulls freely and weirdly and somehow unobtrusively from multiple genres-sacred, choral, poetry, avant-garde, minimalist, and downright New Age. In its original packaging, it resembles some lost Terry Riley collaboration, or a bootleg of John Cage and Merce Cunningham’s first Happening-something forested and futuristic.

Le Guin wanted to hear the people she’d imagined; she embarked on an elaborate process with her friend Todd Barton to invoke their spirit and tradition. 12" LP with liner notes insert, lyric sheet & letter press bookmark. Includes unlimited streaming of Music and Poetry of the Kesh via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

Ursula K. Le Guin and Todd Barton. The album has been re-released this year; a year which also saw the death of the much-lauded and much-loved author. Such expansive world-building is common in certain science-fiction realms - the universes of Star Trek or Star Wars come readily to mind - but less common in one-off pieces of literature. Of course, Le Guin's Kesh world-building wasn't just designed as a fun bit of add-on trivia but was key to the book's purpose, which was to interpellate an understanding of the present and past through the use of a speculative future rendered from the standpoint of its own contemporaries.

Formatted for use in the Make Noise Morphagene by Todd Barton. Sounds from "Music and Poetry of the Kesh". All samples have been remastered from the master 8-channel recording sessions of 1984. It has been fun and fascinating "remixing" them in the Morphagene.
