She plays that Chuck Berry Mabeline groove great though - with Ransome Knowling on bass and Willie 'Big Eye's' Smith on drums. Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Up Above My Head (France 1965). Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Sister Rosetta Tharpe - "Thats All".

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Guitar, Vocals Otis Spann - Piano Ransome Knowling - Bass Willie 'Big Eye's' Smith – Drums. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was one of the great blues gospel singers and she was one of the pioneer gospel artists who crossed over into the secular world.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was born on March 20, 1915 as Rosetta Nubin in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to Katie Bell Nubin and Willis Atkins, who were cotton pickers. Little is known of her father, except that he was a singer. Michelle Shocked opened her live gospel album ToHeavenURide (2007) with "Strange Things Happening Every Day", along with a tribute to Tharpe. In 2001, the French film Amélie included a scene showing the protagonist's house-bound neighbor mesmerized by a montage of video clips that featured a performance of "Up Above My Head" by Tharpe. Live in Paris (1964). Live at the Hot Club de France (1966). Negro Gospel Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the Hot Gospel Tabernacle Choir and Players (1967).

I think because Sister Rosetta was a Black Woman in that era of time she never got the proper recognition she rightfully deserved ! The ROCK -n-Roll style music was patterned after Rosetta Tharpe's r. .There would not have been any rock & roll without Sister Rosetta Tharpe ll. She toured Europe playing & singing before Mick Jagger put a guitar in his hand or the Beatles starting playing. However those that got a chance to see & hear her were greatly influenced. She toured Europe in the 1930's & 40's. Sister Rosetta Tharpe should be considered & added to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
