The Platinum Collection is a compilation album released by English rock group Deep Purple. It features songs from their very first album Shades of Deep Purple up to their (at the time) most recent album Bananas. All songs written by Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice, except where noted.

The following is the discography of Deep Purple, an English rock band. Formed in 1968 by Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Rod Evans, Ritchie Blackmore, and Nick Simper, Deep Purple released their debut album, Shades of Deep Purple, in July of that year. They have undergone many changes of personnel over the years, and today Ian Paice is the only member from the original line-up still with the band. The other members currently are Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse and Don Airey.

Deep Purple, also referred to as Deep Purple III, is the third studio album by the English rock band Deep Purple, released in June 1969 on Tetragrammaton Records in the United States and only in September 1969 on Harvest Records in the United Kingdom. Its release was preceded by the single "Emmaretta" and by a long tour in the UK, whose dates were interspersed between the album's recording sessions

Deep Purple in Rock is, to my mind, a more worthwhile album than Machine Head. I mean, Machine Head is great don't get me wrong, but In Rock just has better material. I absolutely love every song on there, and Speed King, Child In Time, Flight of the Rat, and others are some of the best Deep purple songs out there. In Rock also has an incredibly raw sound that an album like Machine Head doesn't capture, and In Rock is certainly one of the most important pieces in heavy metal history. Also, the songs on In Rock are not overplayed like Smoke on the Water and Highway Star.

This is a record that even those who aren't Deep Purple fans can listen to two or three times in one sitting - but then, this wasn't much like any other album that the group ever issued. Actually, Deep Purple was highly prized for many years by fans of progressive rock, and for good reason.
