Candy-O is the second studio album by the American rock band the Cars. It was released in 1979 on Elektra Records. Featuring the Top 20 hit "Let's Go" and the minor hit "It's All I Can Do", the album charted 15 places higher than its predecessor on the Billboard Hot 100. The album features cover art by pin-up artist Alberto Vargas. Unlike the first album, Candy-O was created under a more democratic approach

Candy-O" is a song by the American rock band The Cars, the title track of their 1979 album Candy-O. It was written by the band's songwriter Ric Ocasek, was produced by Roy Thomas Baker, and features Cars bassist Benjamin Orr on lead vocals. The style of the song is perhaps more guitar-heavy and less new wave-sounding than many Cars songs. The chorus is minimal, with only one line ("Candy-O, I need you so"), leading to loud guitar and drum fills dividing the rhythm less evenly.

Candy-O is generally seen as the explicit sequel to The Cars, while Panorama is the dark detour that tanked on the charts. Both of these assessments have some grounding in reality, but the truth for both records is considerably more complex. Take Candy-O, which followed their debut by almost exactly a year. Superficially, the album offers another dose of stylish, detached pop with hooks so finely honed, they may have come off an assembly line.

After releasing a debut album that was considered perfect, packed with hits from beginning to end, the Cars faced an interesting dilemma on Candy-O. Should they make an exact replica and rake in the bucks? Or fool with the formula just enough to keep it interesting (while still emptying the tillers)? Working again with producer Roy Thomas Baker, the band wrote an almost entirely new batch of songs that captured the same pop highs as The Cars while sounding different in some important ways

The Cars had the opposite problem: their self-titled 1978 debut persistently lingered in the Top 40 while the band impatiently waited to release a follow-up. At first Elektra wanted to hold it back some, but we told them there was no way," scoffed guitarist/singer Ric Ocasek in a 1979 interview. Because if they were going to hold that back, they were going to hold us back, and we can't just sit around and be held back  . But lest fans think the new album's similarity to its predecessor was proof of a dearth of new ideas, Ocasek made it clear he was already thinking ahead. I'll probably write a whole new album before we get the next one done - I'm going two albums ahead of them," he continued.
