Hypertrace is the debut studio album by the German power metal band Scanner, released through Noise Records in 1988. It is a concept album with a science fiction storyline. With scientific help these seven were trained and genetically manipulated to become a super combat unit.

Their debut album Hypertrace is created around the storyline of a science fiction adventure. The superb combat unit which represents the main character on the album are musically translated to the riffs and rhythms of Scanner's sound. The high speed energetic compositions are the main focus, while the heavy metal is thrown in to vary the album in diversity. Since their formation back in 1986 the German band Scanner performed live in different line-ups. Lead guitarist Axel . Julius is the only band member which was part of their first album.

Hypertrace being their debut album sounds like it could make a worthy fit on the Helloween catalog. The similarity is evident as both bands relied on the magic of dual guitar solos and riffs that roughly crossed the thrash territory. The vocalist who’s middle name is . R also sounds a lot like Michael Kiske for the most part but could shriek out falsettos as high as anyone I’ve heard till date.

The album has a conceptual storyline, but the album's sequence does not follow the story.
