Sister is the fourth studio album by American alternative rock band Sonic Youth. It was released in June 1987 by SST Records. The album furthered the band's move away from the no wave genre towards more traditional song structures, while maintaining an aggressively experimental approach. Like Sonic Youth's previous records, Sister was not successful at the time. It later garnered critical praise, with several publications naming it one of the 1980s' best albums.

No Sister are a four-piece post-punk band from Melbourne. Originally forming in Brisbane in 2013 with Mino Peric and Tiarney Miekus (guitars and vocals), the pair moved to Melbourne and teamed up with Murray Coggan (drums) and Gemma Helms (bass). The first single from the album, Sister Rosetta, is inspired by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the American singer who paved the way for rock’n’roll in the 30s and 40s. It features guitar breaks from Tharpe’s own songs, which Turner says he found challenging, because she’s a way better guitar player than me. Other historical and apocryphal figures who inspired songs on the album include Egyptian feminist activist Huda Sha'arawi (The Lioness), Resusci Annie (Rescue Annie), a mythical drowned virgin whose face was used as the model for medical CPR mannequins the world over, and Turner’s own mothe.
