There’s obviously quite a few disparate styles at work in A Walk in The Dark, but nowhere do they gel better than on Loveray 79 (the year before America knew the face of HIV, coincidentally) which gives the gritty sugar rush of a ballad backed by cowbells, chunky piano chords, and softly cooed vocals.
Whoever the Golf Channel label's Central Executives are, they have an exceptionally clear vision of the era of dance music they want to evoke - even if the period itself swims in a haze of spiked punch and poppers, its members-only clubs long ago converted to luxury condos and Duane Reades
The Central Executives What can we say ? Not much as it turns out - the generally very forthcoming Golf Channel crew are remaining tight-lipped about the architects of this, frankly mind-blowing debut long-player from this new NYC collective.
Ginsberg on finger cymbals. An album of two musics that define themselves and then converge. Cotton Club coffee in white fur accepts a drink from the Idjut Boys on Acid Test. A Gotham heartbeat, drugged irregular. A torch still burning for NYC& muse.

Those cheeky scamps at Golf Channel come through with a surprise here with A Walk In The Dark, the debut album from a mysterious group of individuals known only as The Central Executives. However given how extensive Phil South’s figurative rolodex is, not to mention the sheer breadth of talent that’s appeared on Golf Channel over the years, we are willing to wager there is some high profile disco talent behind The Central Executives.
A Walk Across the Rooftops is the debut album by Scottish band The Blue Nile, released on 30 April 1984 on Linn Records in the UK and on A&M Records in the US. Although the album was released to little fanfare and was not a big hit on its initial release, it slowly accumulated fans and sales through word of mouth as the years passed, and by the time the follow-up Hats was released in 1989, A Walk Across the Rooftops had sold 80,000 copies. It continued to gather praise when reissued in 2012.
