De La Soul (/ˌdeɪ lɑː ˈ-/) is an American hip hop trio formed in 1987 in the Amityville area of Long Island, New York. De La Soul are just about the only rap group I can say are almost "perfect". De La Soul have made more unique and original material than I can count. Their clever and humorous lyrics in this track would pretty much set the tone for the rest of their career and their continuous opposition to the dumbification of Hip Hop. De La Soul never sold out, never followed trends, never felt the need for tough guy, gangsta posturing – they always stayed true to themselves.
