Napalm Beach had opened for Thunders bands a couple times in the 80s. As usual, Chris Newman writes, sings, and plays guitar and piano on this album. He also made the cover art. This album features Napalm's final (and longest-running) bassist, Dave Dillinger, and of course, the Wipers Sam Henry on drums and keyboards. There is an underlying struggle to this album. In many ways "Curosities" represents the creative and professional peak for the band. like when storm clouds move quickly across the sky, with the sunlight shining through the empty spaces.

Listen free to Napalm Beach – Curiosities (As I Am, Naked Preacher and more). The idea for Curiosities came about in December of 1990, when Napalm Beach were on their third tour of Europe. Reading the novel Geek Love on the road, songwriter Chris Newman began to see parallels with the freak show element of life for a touring band. Inspired, Newman recorded Curiosities and dedicated it to the book's author, Katherine Dunn

Portland, OR's Napalm Beach have called it quits after a spasmodic decade-plus run. They date back to the early-'80s Northwest punk explosion, a scene that was particularly explosive in Vancouver, and they were contemporaries of Portland legends Wipers. In fact, drummer Sam Henry played with Wipers up through the first LP, 1980's Is This Real?)

Napalm Beach played on at least two bills in the 1980s with the Heartbreakers in Portland in Seattle. Three days before Thunders died, the band had breakfast with Thunders in a Berlin hotel, where Thunders autographed bandleader Chris Newman's passport "all my love and admiration. In 1993 Napalm Beach released a cover of "Chatterbox" for a Johnny Thunders Tribute compilation put together by Tim Kerr Records. The single featured a photo of the autograph next to a photo of a guitar Napalm Beach bassist Otis P. Otis had gotten from Thunders in an earlier trade.
