The Kink Kronikles is a compilation double album by The Kinks, released on Reprise Records in 1972, after the band had signed with RCA Records in 1971. It comprises mostly singles with five tracks taken from albums released by the band from 1966 to 1971, including the soundtrack Percy released in the UK only; two tracks were previously unreleased. Designed specifically for the American market, it peaked at on the Billboard 200. The single versions and mixes were not necessarily used for each track.
The Kink Kronikles, for that matter, is more complicated an album than it might at first appear to be. Things start breaking down starting with side three, partly from incohesive programming (which is strange, because the structuring of the first two sides is superb), and partly because nothing ever catches fire . The first two sides of Kink Kronikles do, however, capture perfectly the Kinks’ period when they were creating their own highly individual music, totally uninfluenced by current trends. Ultimately, the Kinks are one of the most underdog groups of all time.
Covering the years 1966 through 1970, The Kink Kronikles may not be packed with hits - out of the album's 28 tracks, only nine were hits in the . yet it's a definitive overview of this era, which was one of Ray Davies' most productive (and influential) periods.
The album was re-released in 1998 in the UK on Castle Records with twelve bonus tracks. This reissue was itself reissued in 2004 on the Sanctuary label Contents. Retrieved 9 November 2011. Mike Saunders (1972-05-25). Retrieved 2014-06-13. php?title Kinks (album)&oldid 888257982".

Coming from a criminally underrated band, The Kink Kronikles is ground zero for anyone just getting into The Kinks. This double album is not a greatest hits collection, and with that said you won’t find You Really Got Me or All Day and All the Night blazing through your speaker. All of the material here is from their golden era of 1966-1971. The feeling from this album is different for each person who listens to it because the songs have a certain power to make you feel nostalgic about something.
