It is a tribute to former band. It is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. The song was first performed on their 1974 French tour, and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song was intended to be a side-long composition (like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes"), but was ultimately split into two parts and used to bookend the album, with new material composed that was more relevant to this song, and to the situation in which the band found themselves. Lyrics: Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.

When it comes to Pink Floyd and especially this album, you either get it or you don't. You may not understand what the big deal is about this album, and if so, that's fine, since it's your personal opinion. However, you really should give it more of a chance if you're willing to. There's a reason why this is commonly seen as one of the best rock albums of all time. Probably the greatest album of all time.

Pink Floyd have been known to perform and/or record a number of songs and instrumentals which have never been officially released on a single or album. Only those whose existence can be reliably confirmed are listed here. Bootleg recordings of the majority of below listed songs exist. Several previously unreleased songs appeared on The Early Years 1965–1972 box set in November 2016, which marked their first official release.

This Pink Floyd discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top Pink Floyd albums can be found at the top of the list. To make it easy for you, we haven't included Pink Floyd singles, EPs, or compilations, so everything you see here should only be studio albums.

Pink Floyd were the perfect band for this time. Atom Heart Mother, their fifth album in a mere three years, opens with a six-part instrumental unlike anything else they had recorded up to that point. It ends with "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast," a supremely weird 13-minute instrumental largely written by Nick Mason. Pink Floyd were barely a band when they recorded The Final Cut in late 1982. Roger Waters' slow takeover of the band was now complete. He'd pushed Richard Wright out of the group during the making of The Wall (though he was rehired to play on the tour), and brought in session musicians to play along with his bandmates on the album. David Gilmour and Nick Mason were barely on speaking terms with Waters, but somehow they slogged their way through the next album.

Throughout it all, Pink Floyd have maintained a ‘corporate’ identity while remaining doggedly individual – something which has simply added to their enigma. 18. Soundtrack from the film More (Columbia/EMI, 1969). It took a while to dawn on Pink Floyd that they were a great soundtrack band for their own increasingly spectacular light show. But their first foray into writing a film soundtrack is the aural equivalent of watching paint dry. It’s a disjointed series of mood pieces that may or may not have matched the scenes on screen

Pink Floyd has effectively sold an album to every single one of those people. That puts them ahead of Celine Dion, AC/DC, the Rolling Stones, and ABBA, among others. Only the Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, and Elton John have done better. This band is so popular, and has been for so long, that it’s basically impossible to imagine the rock/pop landscape without them. They’re like Isaac Asimov - many of their tropes seem hackneyed now, but that’s because everyone has been ripping them off for decades. Though it’s impossible to imagine the 2013 rock/pop landscape without them, it’s just as tough to imagine an equally daring group blowing up today. So how did Pink Floyd get so immensely popular?

And it's all here-30 years of the Floyd's awesome back catalog trimmed down to two handsome CDs. It's worth remembering that, despite a fondness for pyrotechnics, Pink Floyd were never a prog-rock band. Interestingly, the album's nonchronological track listing works-the summery, childhood enchantment of "See Emily Play" is right next to the school discipline of "Happiest Days of Our Lives"-and at least this way no one will switch off when material from A Momentary Lapse of Reason comes around. All in all, this may be the best Pink Floyd compilation out there and should be a good starting point for people that are just getting into Pink Floyd. This covers the span of their studio albums, with an emphasis on material released during the height of their powers.
