Ivry Gitlis was born in what is now Israel in 1922, started playing the violin at 5, was concertizing at 9, and at 10 was sent to study in Paris by Bronislav Hubermann. There he worked with Enesco, Thibaud and Carl Flesch. At the outbreak of WW2 he went to London, where, after work in a munitions factory he joined the artists branch of the British Army and gave many concerts for the troups. For the second, Ivry Gitlis (born 1922) is a great living violinist and these recordings made in early 1950s show his art in the best way, when Ivry's violin sounded powerful and brilliant.
