Praying Mantis are an English rock band. Although a part of the new wave of British heavy metal scene, they pursued a musical direction more melodic and AOR-sounding than their contemporaries. Their formation considerably pre-dated the NWOBHM movement. They were formed in 1974 by the Troy brothers, Tino and Chris, both college students.

Praying Mantis are a proper old school heavy metal band, formed back in 1979 in the UK. Their newest album ‘Sanctuary’ has come after a gap of 6 years since their last full length ‘The Journey Goes on’, and they deliver an excellent, rocking album full of soaring riffs, melodious solos and memorable choruses. Praying Mantis come from the same school as Maiden, Jaguar and the like, classic rock riffing that informs most modern power metal ballads (which this bares some resemblance to in style occasionally, especially the theatrical ‘So High’).

Praying Mantis are a well established band of melodic hard rockers. Legacy" is the 10th Praying Mantis album. It is the first recording to feature the two new members, Jaycee Cuijpers and Hans in’t Zandt (vocals and drums respectively), who have truly provided a new dimension to the writing process and musical performances. Together with guitarists Tino Troy and Andy Burgess, they have been instrumental not only in the writing of the new songs, but in providing a new vision in terms of the sound engineering and production.

but, once again, Praying Mantis don't get the respect that they deserve. This album is a well rounded slice of melodic rock, with harmonies to die for (think Iron Maiden meets CSN&Y. The song writing is superb; the kind of songs that overlay the heart and emotions into which one can project ones own identity onto. It is also one of those albums that has a sense of being complete; where every track fits together to form an inescapably beautiful, and compelling, whole.
