Monkey Island is the seventh studio album by American rock band The J. Geils Band. The album was released on June 9, 1977, by Atlantic Records. The album did not perform well in the marketplace, and would be the J. Geils Band's last original album for Atlantic Records after almost eight years with the label
Monkey is a third wave ska band based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their musical influences include the Skatalites, Prince Buster, the Specials, and non-ska artists such as: Elvis Costello, David Byrne and Tito Puente. Monkey has released five albums, the first two as independent releases, the next three by Asian Man Records. Their debut album ¡Changito!, was listed as San Jose's Best Independent Release for 1998.
The three wise monkeys are a pictorial maxim, embodying the proverbial principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". The three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil. Lafcadio Hearn refers to them as the three mystic apes in his Glimpses of unfamiliar Japan (volume 2, page 127).
The ’next move’ is a ‘monkey’ that you’ve allowed to leap from his back onto yours. The problem never gets old as most managers still spend a considerable amount of time dealing with their subordinates' problems instead of focusing on their own tasks. The result of all this is that the manager will increase his leverage, which will in turn enable him to multiply, without theoretical limit, the value of each hour that he spends in managing management time.
Johnson dutifully writes the requested memo and drops it in his out-basket. Shortly thereafter, the manager plucks it from his in-basket and reads it. Whose move is it now? The manager’s. If he does not make that move soon, he will get a follow-up memo from the subordinate. This is another form of supervision. The reason: when you give problems back to subordinates to solve themselves, you have to be sure that they have both the desire and the ability to do so. As every executive knows, that isn’t always the case. Enter a whole new set of problems.
In 1989, it was sampled for . Doug E. Fresh (Dance, Party Get-Up Remix) by Doug E. Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew and Do It to the Crowd by Twin Hype. In 2006, it appeared in the Driver: Parallel Lines soundtrack. Also Surround U by Fantasia Barrino sampled this song. In 2010, the track was sampled by A Skillz on their track Twang Banger.
