The Shining were an English rock supergroup formed in 2000. The band was composed of Duncan Baxter (vocals), Dan MacBean (guitar), Mark Heaney (drums), Simon Jones (bass), and Simon Tong (guitar, keyboards), the latter two both being members of The Verve. The band originally featured former Stone Roses & The Seahorses guitarist John Squire, however he chose to leave the group early in the band's lifetime. The Shining is a 1980 horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick and co-written with novelist Diane Johnson. The film is based on Stephen King's 1977 novel The Shining. The Shining is about Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, who accepts a position as the off-season caretaker of the isolated historic Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies.

A Whole New World is a love ballad between the main characters Aladdin and Jasmine about the new world they are going to discover together while riding on Aladdin’s magic carpet.

The album was praised for its ability to simultaneously induce claustrophobia, nausea and vertigo and probably placed in enveloped by the CIA and sent to Guantanamo Bay for loud volume testing. For the follow-up to Blackjazz the Shining took all the elements that make them great–-serrated guitar, battering drums, larynx-tearing vocals, braying saxophone, and skewed propulsive rhythms–-and distilled them into more concise, confrontational songs that are cleaner and less improvisational than most of Blackjazz without losing any of the ket electrocution effect. How did you want One One One to be different than Blackjazz? About six months after we finished Blackjazz, I felt like we had stumbled upon something that was very unique. Why did you call the album One One One? Is a reference to how binary codes are made up entirely of ones and twos?

It's impossible not to wonder exactly what this album could've been, or where Dilla would've gone with his skills after its release. But it's just as easy to marvel at the amount of quality music he generated while he was on this planet.
