Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200.

Neil Young's distinctive sound and identity is a little bit country, and a little bit rock n' roll - but his life story is definitely more of a ballad than a rocking anthem. He's weathered everything from a fractured family to deadly health scares. This is the tragic real-life story of Neil Young. Young doesn't look or act like a fancy rock star, and his music reflects that - because his life has had plenty of moments that are more "Needle and the Damage Done" than "Party Rock Anthem. Neil Young has lived through a lot of heartbreak, tragedy, and difficulties, but he's kept on rockin' in the free world for more than 70 years. Here's a look at how Neil Young has suffered, both for his art, and because life is just that way sometimes. Neil Young was born too early to benefit from the polio vaccine. Old Man, though, marked the first time Fallon’s imitation actually performed a Neil Young song (not counting when Bradley Cooper played air guitar to Down By the River, which Young later revealed was actually a Danny Whitten part). In addition to the Young/ Young duet, the real Storytone rocker performed his recent single Who’s Gonna Stand Up? sans Young but accompanied by the Roots: In his interview segment with Fallon, Young complimented Fallon’s impression, as he did on his last visit, and discussed his new high-quality PONO music player and download service.

Neil Young's most popular album, Harvest benefited from the delay in its release (it took 18 months to complete due to Young's back injury), which whetted his audience's appetite, the disintegration of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Young's three erstwhile partners sang on the album, along with Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor), and most of all, a hit single. Heart of Gold," released a month before Harvest, was already in the Top 40 when the LP hit the stores, and it soon topped the charts.

NEW YORK, July 8 (UPI) - Jimmy Fallon as Neil Young returned to The Tonight Show Monday. The 39-year-old host revived his impression of the 68-year-old musician to perform Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" with Young's on-and-off bandmates Crosby, Stills & Nash. Fallon has previously impersonated the folk singer for renditions of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Party in the . and Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair. After Neil Young left the California folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield in 1968, he slowly established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation. Young’s body of work ranks second only to Bob Dylan in terms of depth, and he was able to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a longer period of time than Dylan, partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic. Born in Toronto, Canada, Neil Young moved to Winnipeg with his mother following her divorce from his sports journalist father. Young began playing music in high school. The group recorded an album’s worth of material for Motown, none of which was released at the time. Frustrated by his lack of success, Young moved to Los Angeles in his Pontiac hearse, taking Palmer along as support.

In 1973, Neil Young played the inaugural show at the Los Angeles club, The Roxy. The reissued recording captures a night that turned his famously bracing album into something warmer and vibrant. Walk the city blocks of Los Angeles and imagine its bohemian yesteryear, when strung-out sex parties and impromptu jamborees emanated from the storefronts and bungalows. Neil Young’s foothold in the musician circles of Topanga, Laurel Canyon, and Hollywood are well documented.
