Masayuki 'Jojo' Takayanagi (高柳昌行) (December 22, 1932 – June 23, 1991) was a Japanese jazz, free improvisation, noise musician. He was active in the Japanese jazz scene from the late 1950s. In the 1960s he formed New Directions (later New Direction Unit), which recorded several albums throughout the 1970s. He also recorded several albums with saxophonist Kaoru Abe, including Kaitai Teki Kohkan, Gradually Projection and Mass Projection. Ginparis Session (TBM, 1963, ).

His first influence was Lennie Tristano, but through the 1960s and 1970s he explored and pushed the boundaries in free form jazz, leading a group called New Direction, among others. Ever a fighting spirit, in 1982, shortly after recovering from a life-threatening medical condition and surgery, Takayanagi decided to take on a challenging task for any guitarist: To record an entire solo album.

Masayuki 'Jojo' Takayanagi (高柳昌行) was a Japanese experimental musician. He was born in 1932 and died in 1991. He was active in the Japanese free jazz scene from the late 1950s. In the 1960s he formed New Directions, which recorded four albums; Independence (1970), New Direction - Call In Question (1970), Free Form Suite (1977), and Lonely Woman (1982). He has also recorded several albums with saxophonist Kaoru Abe (阿部薫), such as Gradually Projection and Mass Projection.
