A CD-only expansion of the 1986 compilation More Blank Than Frank, Desert Island Selection is Brian Eno's handpicked summation of his first few albums, now thought of as his pre-ambient pop phase. It's actually not a bad selection at all, and Eno seems to have taken care to choose and sequence the songs so that the whole thing hangs together

The album sits between the electronic, prog-rock and art rock genres and features some of both Eno and Cale's most mainstream work. The cover was conceived by Eno. The 2005 re-release on All Saints Records was remastered and had a different cover. It contained two bonus tracks, "Grandfather's House" and ″You Don't Miss Your Water″ by Eno. Both titles only appeared on single or EP before; the latter was taken from the 1988 OST album Married to the Mob. Contents. More Blank Than Frank/Desert Island Selection. Curiosities Volume 1. The "More Blank Than Frank" was the title given to the vinyl LP release, and "Desert Island Selection" was the name used for the CD version. The album was a compilation of many of Eno's earlier solo works, ranging from 1973's Here Come the Warm Jets to 1978's Music for Airports.

Songs from the period 1973-1977, the compilation was released to mark the publication of 'More Dark Than Shark', a book based on Eno's lyrics and Russell Mills' illustrative interpretations of them. Initial copies came with a free colour print taken from the book. The LP release contained a wider range of tunes, including a couple of darker and rock-ier songs ("The Great Pretender" and "King's Lead Hat") from.
