The two-book set weighs so much because of the high quality paper stock and binding used. This is a visual feast. The photos are fantastic and I love the little blurbs about the history behind them. Definitely not a detailed history on the designers (who, what, when, where, why, how), but a great photographic history that is well-put together and a great coffee table book that EVERYONE will love.
For many, the 20th century was seen as "America's century. It was a century in which the United States' influence would be felt around the globe. Nowhere is this more true than in the world of music. From jazz to rock, America was the birthplace to some of the most influential music the world had seen-aided, of course, by the popularity of new technologies such as phonographs, and radios. There was one other very successful distributor of American tunes: the American GI, who brought his music with him wherever he went

Could we possibly imagine the history of 20th century painting without his Les Demoiselles d’Avignon or Guernica? Would today’s art market make sense? Hardly, because Pablo Picasso is arguably the greatest figure of modernism and co-creator of one of the most influential movements – Cubism. He’s the man who made us look at our entire existence in a completely different way, as he introduced multiple points of view and various interpretations of a single subject.
20th century history. Up until 1905, it had never been colonised, including in the infamous Scramble for Africa during the 19th century. Long before 1905, France had been eyeing Morocco and discussed its imperialistic plans to conquer Morocco with Spain.

A revolution occurred in 20th century music listening as the radio gained popularity worldwide, and new media and technologies were developed to record, capture, reproduce and distribute music. Because music was no longer limited to concerts and clubs, it became possible for music artists to quickly gain fame nationwide and sometimes worldwide. For more examples see: List of 21st century classical composers. A Cultural Gap. At the beginning of the twentieth century the "cosmic principles" that traversed the expanse of history were no longer considered eternal or immutable. Subsequently the idea of transient artistic standards lacking ethical underpinnings became, in part, the basis of Arnold Schoenberg's explorations into serial techniques and the resulting "emancipation of dissonace.
