Although his releases are relatively rare, the quality of the Detroiter's beatdown and Motor City deep house cuts is always exceptionally high. That's certainly the case on this three-track EP, which marks the veteran producer's first outing on The Playground. For us, it's all about ultra-deep A-side "The People", a hybrid beatdown/deep house affair where becalmed electric piano chords and held-note strings recline over a hypnotic, techno-tinged beat.

Norm Talley has a new EP, Pier Place Project, coming via FXHE Records. Omar-S's label has recently become home base for Talley, who started DJing in 1982. Pier Place Project follows last year's Norm-A-Lize album as well as an EP from earlier this year, I Tried To Told Cha. As usual, FXHE boss Omar-S has kept up a steady stream of his own music in 2018, releasing four 12-inches on his label this year.

A long and distinguished recording career for the always faithful Norm Talley has been lacking something Tsuba shapes until now, so kudos to Kev Griffiths for coaxing three drops of powerfully deep and danceable house from the Westside Detroiter. Each track here offers a different mood with A-side cut Mid-Nite Madd-Ness the peak time burner with classically Detroit house styled cymbal clashes cuing breakdowns, while vamping chords ascend and descend. Holiday is the warmer summer house jam with woozy Rhodes on loop, while One Track Mind is deep and rhythmic with a sultry vocal to boot.

Norm Talley - Norm-A-Lize Detroit Hustle is a dance, a book and an idea central to the city's resurgence, but many of the Motor City's leading dance producers work at their own pace. Marcellus Pittman and Andrés have been hinting at new albums for years, and Kyle Hall has released two tracks since 2015. Of his own music, Norm Talley told5 Magazine: "I don't put out a lot of records just so I can say that I have a record out. When you're releasing records just to have something out, you're shooting yourself in the foot.
