Running from the late 1950s through the year 2000, this list gathers together the best work from the greatest soul artists of all time into one convenient rundown, allowing you to browse and discover a diverse collection of this stirring music. Soul music combines traditional American gospel and rhythm & blues (R&B) style, collecting catchy hooks, heavy improvisation and a tense vocal sound.
Collective Soul released a self-titled album in March 1995. Considered by Ed Roland to be band's true debut album, Collective Soul spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts and went triple-platinum, becoming the band's highest selling album. The singles "December", "The World I Know", and "Where the River Flows" each reached number one on the Mainstream Rock charts. Original drummer Shane Evans departed from the band in 2003. After the Seven Year Itch album, Collective Soul established their own label, El Music Group, prior to releasing Youth in 2004. The band recorded a live album with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra in 2005, titled Home, and released it in 2006. Collective Soul has since released three more albums: Afterwords (2007), a second self-titled album (2009), and See What You Started by Continuing (2015).
The album remained a best seller for Trojan well into 1970, when the company issued the similarly compiled Red Red Wine Volume 2, which like its predecessor proved hugely popular among UK reggae fans. Meanwhile, Dandy’s work ethos was reflected in the release of an array of further 7 singles and another two long players: Blow Your Horn – a set that largely showcasing the talents of ace trombonist Rico Rodriquez and top British reggae act, the Rudies – and Your Musical Doctor throughout which Dandy’s own vocals took centre stage.
