This album starts out as solid, yet not particularly distinctive Death Metal. In fact, the first four tracks basically rip by before one even realizes the band has started another song. This situation, fortunately, is rectified later in the record, starting with Wasteland. The song is ushered in by an exotic guitar lead and swishing cymbals reminiscent of Metallica’s classic thrasher Where Ever I May Roam. All in all, Beyond the Flesh has good chops and the ability to write songs that have a little more form than the utter chaos some bands try to pass off as music these days. However, there is a downside, mainly in the production area. The drums are a little overwhelming in the mix, yet sound somewhat muddy.

Do they expect a better than What the Mind Perceives sophomore album will show up on their doorstep? I highly doubt it. Why it is then Beyond the Flesh is still unsigned? . Beyond the Flesh has an innate ability to come up with riffs and melodies that cannot be pulled out of my brain unless a pair of pliers is applied (the main riff of Scattered Thoughts would be a good example). They can also change tempo on a dime or come up with complex compositions like the awesome title track closer where melodic thrash, syncopated heavy riffs, lead and acoustic outro all seem to be in their rightful place (if you have a little patience to wait a little more acoustic-solo playing appears after a pause)
