Night Ranger is an American rock band from San Francisco formed in 1979 that gained popularity during the 1980s with a series of albums and singles. The band's first five albums sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and have sold 17 million albums total. The quintet is best known for the power ballad "Sister Christian", which peaked at No. 5 in June 1984.

Songs like this were the reason Night Ranger became so unpopular. Overproduced pop, too much keyboard. A&R guys looking for a hit at the expense of a band. Coupled with a shitty, souless video (that could have been so much more!) and you can see how the band starts their decent from stardom (that and a HUGE shift in music with bands like GNR, Metallica, and Megadeth). And before you thumbs down me, know this: I am a HUGE Night Ranger fan. I just say them the other night (11/14/15) at this dumpy Nor-Cal casino AND THEY ROCKED IT!!! I see them every chance I can get.

Night Ranger was riding high on the success of Midnight Madness and Seven Wishes, a pair of albums that actually brought the arena rockers into arenas. They had stardom and they knew they wanted to keep the Big Life - which is exactly why their 1987 follow-up to Seven Wishes sounds so stilted. In many ways, the record's first single encapsulates what was wrong with the album. Thing is, Night Ranger didn't have the hooks in either the rocker or ballad department on Big Life, and the respective singles ("The Secret of My Success," "Hearts Away") flopped along with the rest of the album. Though they later rebounded artistically, such a poor performance marked the end of Night Ranger's time as hitmakers.
