Project Blowed is an open-mic workshop, its affiliated underground hip hop crew and record label based in Los Angeles, California. In 1976, the Good Brothers released their self-titled debut album, which was a mix of their traditional roots, folk, and country background with a range of rock blended in. The album earned them a Juno Award for Best Country Group, an award they received each year from 1976 to 1983. They also received a gold record for sales of their live album in 1981. In 1990, banjo player and guitarist Larry Good took time away from the band and was replaced by a son of one of the Good brothers, Travis Good. In 1970 twin brothers Bruce and Brian Good of Richmond Hill, Ontario, met James Ackroyd from Winnipeg, Manitoba and formed a band simply called James and The Good Brothers. Their first show was with Grand Fund Railroad at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Then came the cross Canada tour on the outrageous Festival Express with such artists as The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Ian & Sylvia, Ten Years After, Traffic and The Band just to name a few. With a little help from friends The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, they recorded their first album on Columbia records

The roots of Project Blowed can be traced back to the Good Life Cafe, a health food center in South Central Los Angeles, California. It was described by UGSMAG as "a platform for rappers to perform their material" and "a testing ground for Los Angeles' independent rap scene" In 1994, Aceyalone and Abstract Rude produced the original Project Blowed compilation album. It was released in 1995
