Marley wrote this song amid the turmoil of the Jamaican elections in December 1976. Marley had supported Michael Manley when he won the election in 1972 and became Prime Minister of Jamaica, but four years later, Marley was by far the most popular person in Jamaica, and he refused to take a political stance as the country was divided between Manley's People's National Party and the Jamaican Labour Party headed by Edward Seaga  . In 1977, Bob Marley & the Wailers released the updated version on the Exodus album which became the definitive rendition and made in the UK. This incorporates parts of the 1965 Impressions song "People Get Ready. One Love, People Get Ready (Photek Remix). One Love (Cordovan Remix). All In One (Parts 1 and 2). 3:06.

Since his death in 1981, Bob Marley has been both Rasta saint and commander in chief. His eminence came from his universality, and his best work, from No Woman No Cry to Redemption Song, fused anger with tenderness and incantational melodies. This posthumous album inevitably falls far short of his best. Marley’s scratchy-soothing vocal style and inimitable phrasing dominate the songs, properly and sometimes powerfully, but the charged atmosphere that came about when he led the Wailers and the magically responsive backup singers, the I-Threes, simply can’t be duplicated by overdubs. Confrontation is an album of numerous small pleasures - the water-bug delicacy of Jump Nyabinghi, the forceful insight of Buffalo Soldier, the gospel-like adamancy of Rastaman Live Up! - and it is a valuable, welcome document.
