The sounds of slowed breathing. The main problem with the instrumentation of this album is the lack of a bass. While not having someone playing an upright or electric bass isn’t an issue, Kittyhawk doesn’t seem to fill that gap with anything. On multiple occasions, songs seem somewhat bottomless. This isn’t a problem on every track, but it is a reoccurring issue. Something on this album that might not be perfect for all listeners is the surplus of slow songs. This doesn’t detract from the overall listen and it gives this album a more laid-back sound.

Kittyhawk (2). Hello, Again ‎(LP, Album, Ltd, RP, Bab). CYLS 084. Kittyhawk (2). Hello, Again ‎(LP, Album, Ltd).

On their exceptional new album, Hello, Again, Kittyhawk embraces the emo tag while charting a new course that sidesteps many of its inherent shortcomings. The result is one of the strongest statements of the genre’s resurgence, an album filled with contradictions that coexist in fragile harmony. The band’s clearest asset is the voice of singer/keyboardist Kate Grube, whose range injects each song with a relatable sense of pathos.

The Chicago band is such a wonderful break from the proliferation of the sad emo boy’s club. Kate Grube’s earnest vocal work recalls bands like Rainer Maria, the Anniversary, and the Rocking Horse Winner. But that’s not to say Kittyhawk is another band simply regurgitating the music of scenes past. The band has its own distinct identity that sometimes punches you up hard and other times lulls you gently down. Really, we need more bands like this

Kittyhawk Hello, Again. SITE: New Album Releases. With a sound resembling Sunny Day Real Estate, mixed with lo-fi indie - This is Kittyhawk. And it's pretty good. Even Noisey had a nice write-up, and they are way too cool for EMO. "The Chicago band is such a wonderful break from the proliferation of the sad emo boy’s club
