Last Date is a live recording by jazz musician Eric Dolphy. The concert, recorded on June 2, 1964 in Hilversum, Holland, was just 27 days before Dolphy's death from diabetic shock. Utterly masterful on his flute during "You Don't Know What Love Is," Dolphy's high-drama vibrato tones are simply out of this or any other world, perfectly emoting the bittersweet intent of this song

Eric Dolphy: The Penultimate Date doesn’t quite have the right ring to i. and the qualifier Last live Date is positively goulish. One of his last dates and he is very much alive. As pickup groups go, he was fortunate in his choice of rhythm section. The d pianist Mengelberg and twenty-one-year-old drummer Bennink were young and their musical styles not as original as they would become later on but even then they were competent bop-style musicians.
