The American Breed was an American rock band that was formed in 1958 and disbanded in 1970, later evolving into Rufus. The group was formed in Cicero, Illinois as Gary & The Knight Lites. The founding members included Gary Loizzo- vocals and guitar, Charles Colbert, J. bass guitar and vocals, Al Ciner- guitar and vocals, and Jim Michalak on drums. Early releases included- "I'm Glad She's Mine," "I Don't Need Your Help," "Will You Go Steady," "Take Me Back," among others.
And regardless of the fairness of such concerns, in the case of the American Breed, those concerns turn out to be well-founded. The group's original compositions are solid instrumentally, but typically lack much of anything in the way of melody. The group does a commendable job of performing the selected cover tunes on this, their debut album, but they play them so straight that they're almost undistinguishable from the originals - and therefore hardly worth seeking out.

Fuck the American Dream I know it all too well, I've watched my whole life I've felt those calloused hands and looked into those broken eyes One more bleeding heart that will never see its time You suffer to survive, it will bury you alive. Fuck this place, burn it down. Everything I've loved is gone This is not my home, I've played my final song Tear us down, free us all. Sell your soul for something meaningless A slow death for the corporate mess, and we call this happiness What are we left with in the end? Defeat A lifetime of obedience kicking in your teeth
