Recorded live: at the Parish Church, Aldeburgh, on 21 June 1966 (Schumann) at Snape Maltings on 20 June 1967 (Mozart, Debussy & Britten).

Sviatoslav Teofilovich Richter (Russian: Святосла́в Теофи́лович Ри́хтер, tr. Sviatosláv Teofílovich Ríkhter, IPA: ; March 20 1915 – August 1, 1997) was a Soviet pianist of Russian-German origin, who is generally regarded as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. He is known for the "depth of his interpretations, his virtuoso technique, and his vast repertoire.

Snape Maltings concert hall. The Festival was founded in 1948 by the composer Benjamin Britten, the singer Peter Pears and the librettist/producer Eric Crozier. There was a strong connection with Russian music: Rostropovich and Richter became frequent visitors, and in 1970 Shostakovich's 14th Symphony – dedicated to Britten – had its first performance outside the USSR at the Concert Hall.

Sviatoslav Richter, Benjamin Britten 1. Allegro con spirito.

The Richter-Britten recording, however, is not in the top tier. Sometimes live performances are more stirring than studio recordings. It is almost as though, in a piece as long as the F minor Fantasy, Richter and Britten were concerned about the audience's attention span. As a technical matter, too, there are a few rough edges. Richter and Britten are not always perfectly together, and the voices are blurred in places, especially in the fugato of the final section

Album · 2000 · 14 Songs. By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Sviatoslav Richter & Benjamin Britten. 1. I. Allegro (Live). Sonata for 2 Pianos in D Major, K. 448. 4. Allegro con spirito (Live).

Benjamin Britten, Gloriana, Op. 58. The Tournament. It was not long after meeting Britten that Rostropovich became a regular performer at the Aldeburgh Festival. He took part in the first televised concert from the Snape Maltings Concert Hall, part of which is included here. This is a particularly poignant film, since it is virtually the only record we have of the Maltings as it was before it was destroyed by fire in 1969 and rebuilt in time for the 1970 Festival. Tchaikovsky wrote the Variations on a Rococo Theme for Wilhelm Fitzenhagen, a fellow professor at the Moscow Conservatoire, who gave the premiere in Moscow in November 1877.
