1958 Miles is a compilation album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released in 1974 on CBS/Sony. Recording sessions for the album took place on May 26, 1958, at Columbia's 30th Street Studio and September 9, 1958, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City

In 1974, under the title 1958 Miles they were combined with Love For Sale, which revealed a much less introverted Bill Evans. Original issue: CBS/Sony LP (J) 20AP 1401 in Japan in 1974. Tracks 1-3 originally issued on Jazz Track (CL 1268) on October 19, 1959 Producer: Cal Lampley Engineer: Harold Chapman May 26, 1958 Miles Davis (tpt); Cannonball Adderley (as); John Coltrane (ts); Bill Evans (p); Paul Chambers (b); Jimmy Cobb (d) Columbia 30th Street Studio, NYC Note: Over the years this title. Focuses on the final chapter in the landmark collaboration between Davis and saxophonist John Coltrane: their last live performances together. Recorded in support of Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album of all time. 4CD set includes concerts recorded in Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm from original master tapes.

The Miles Davis groups in 1958 and 1959, with John Coltrane on tenor saxophone and Paul Chambers on bass (and varied others, depending on time and occasion) were really, really good, and for bands that became so well known by studio records, they were fabulous live. As the album title states, these unreleased tracks were originally recorded during radio and TV appearances in the late '5Os. Players working with Miles Davis on these dates included John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Gerry Mulligan, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones.

Released in 1958, the album was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, intended to honor recordings made before the Grammy Awards were instituted in 1959. In December 1957, Davis returned to Paris, where he improvised the background music for the film L'Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Escalator to the Gallows). He followed it with such similar efforts as Miles Davis at Fillmore East (1971 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Performance by a Group), A Tribute to Jack Johnson, Live-Evil, On the Corner, and In Concert, all of which reached the pop charts. Meanwhile, Davis' former sidemen became his disciples in a series of fusion groups: Corea formed Return to Forever, Shorter and Zawinul led Weather Report, and McLaughlin and former Davis drummer Billy Cobham organized the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

CD 16-bit 44,1 kHz. MP3 320 kbps. 01 - On Green Dolphin Street.

That's been Columbia/Legacy's modus operandi for Bitches Brew, In a Silent Way, and now Jack Johnson : put out the box set and after a suitable, cash-draining interval, cough up the remastered album alone. Jack Johnson 's re-release (more accurately at this point, re-re-re-release) begs a few questions.
