The Aeroplane Flies High is a five-disc box set released by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins in 1996. It contains expanded versions of the five singles from their album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and also included a 44-page booklet with pictures and writings by the band's lead singer Billy Corgan, as well as lyrics.

The deluxe reissuing of Smashing Pumpkins’ heyday has resulted in upwards of 200 bonus tracks and the ones on Aeroplane are almost entirely inessential. You learn from the eight-track demo of Zero that it needs vocals and it needs Jimmy Chamberlain. You learn from the live version that it doesn’t need 50% more whammy pedal soloing.

The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right)' is the pumpkins at their finest: a tape of corgan ranting his neuroses plays as a patient guitar strums undernath. Corgan states, shakily, the songs title, and all hell breaks loose in an apocalyptic procreation of Cheap Trick and Black Sabbath. Guitars do most of the talking, with a huge electrified groove running the length of the song, collapsing in and out of desparate guitar solos and snatched drum fills, before lapsing into corgan on a scratchy home recording, plucking out the last few notes, after an exhausting 8 minutes.

The Aeroplane Flies High contains all five singles - "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "1979," "Zero," "Tonight, Tonight," "Thirty-Three" - from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in a box set shaped like a 45 single carrying case from the '60s.

It is almost impossible (perhaps completely impossible) to distinguish the boxes without the packaging sticker or the info card that was sealed on the outside of the box.
