Single by Terry Stafford. from the album Suspicion. Suspicion" was also issued as a single in several European territories to vie with the Terry Stafford version with the Presley version charting in the Netherlands and the Dutch chart for Belgium with respective peaks of and and also in Norway where its chart peak was and in Denmark where it peaked at in its European single release.
Terry Stafford, I'm sure, was a very nice fellow and his version of "Suspicion" outshines the unenthusiastic version by Elvis Presley on Elvis' Pot Luck album. Terry's follow-up "I'll Touch A Star" was a well-done song but was not the smash "Suspicion" was. Both songs conjured up images of a generic Elvis who himself was facing competition from the British Invasion, groups with an edgier fresher sound. Whatever this artist did thereafter, he had to be remembered as basically a one-hit wonder.

In the early 60s Terry Stafford (Born 1941) was marketed as an Elvis Presley sound-alike. He actually recorded an Elvis tune called "Suspicion" which made it to on the US charts in 1964. Interestingly it peaked during a week when The Beatles held every other spot in the Top-5. Stafford had another hit with "I'll Touch a Star" (.After many years without another hit or even an LP he signed to Atlantic's new country division in 1973.
Terry recorded this version of his hit, Suspicion, for Atlantic records, several years after his hits for the Crusader label stopped. I think this is a great take on a great song and it should've been a hit for him all over again, this time in the country field. Also featured on this LP was his original version of the song Amarillo By Morning, which George Strait later had a monster country hit with (needless to say I still think Terry's version of that is also better). The Say Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose album has been reissued on cd (although the quality is not very good - the picture in this video comes from that cd cover, a cropped version of the original album cover - that's Terry's hand that looks rather out of place in the cropped picture - however the.

Suspicion (Terry Stafford song). Single by Terry Stafford. In 2005, Bahamian signer composer Diana Hamilton covered '"Suspicion" on her LP album A Bahamian in Paris, in collaboration with Eric Henri-Gréard, songwriter Florian Lacour, and produced by Patrick Rouchon. A maniacal version of the song was recorded by Vivian Stanshall, produced by Keith Moon. Suspicion" has also been covered by Jimmy London, Millicent Martin, and Delroy Wilson. Phil Spector composition claim.
Terry Stafford became one of only a few artists who managed to "steal" a hit from Elvis Presley by covering one of his album tracks – in this case "Suspicion" from Presley's album Potluck. You wouldn't necessarily realize from that track the extent to which Stafford is a Presley sound-alike, but he is in the same category of great Elvis imitators such as Vince Everett and Ral Donner. Suspicion" was Stafford's biggest hit by far, but he enjoyed two other hits on the Crusader label in 1964.
