On this album, Bruce Robison proves himself to be one of Austin's outstanding up-and-coming country songwriters. He seems equally comfortable writing about his youth in small-town Texas and mature adult relationships. A mandolin and fiddle drive the bluegrassy "Don't You Ever Call My Name," while "Go to Your Heart" is electrified country-rock. Robison plays barroom swing on "12 Bar Blues" and ultra-traditional country on "When I Loved You," a Louvin Brothers song that he sings with Willis. But the focus always comes back to what makes this album great: Robison's songwriting. His lyrics are sometimes catchy and sometimes touching, but never heavy-handed, and even after the CD is over, they continue to captivate the listener's mind.

He is married to singer-songwriter Kelly Willis; they have four children. Bruce and his siblings, fellow singer-songwriters Charlie Robison (ex-husband of Dixie Chicks member Emily Robison) and Robyn Ludwick, grew up in Bandera, Texas and currently reside in Austin, Texas.

Wrapped" is a song written by Bruce Robison. First recorded on his 1998 album Wrapped, then by Kelly Willis on her 1998 album What I Deserve, it was later covered by American country-music artist George Strait on his 2006 album It Just Comes Natural. It was released on March 19, 2007 as the album's third single; Strait's version of the song was a Top 5 country hit, reaching number 2 on the Billboard country charts.

Bruce Robison & The Back Porch Band follows the critically acclaimed singer down a nine-song journey largely inspired by a new love he found after his last solo record: The Next Waltz. The Next Waltz is the result of Robison bringing amazing artists into his amazing space to record amazing songs and capturing the entire process. The whole record really comes together as a natural extension of The Next Waltz, which inspired much of the album. We recorded about 25 songs, and I wish the album were 15 songs long," Robison notes.
