LP (12" album, 33 rpm). Henry Rollins Format: Vinyl. Audio CD, Explicit Lyrics, EP, November 23, 1999. The first half of this CD, " Hot Animal Machine," is mediocre. Rollins is certainly not at his best. I just wasn't captured by anything presented, neither the music nor the lyrics. Now, the second half, "Drive By Shooting," is simply amazing. There's stuff that just plain makes you uncomfortable. It's obvious that Rollins is having fun and experimenting; it works.
Life Time is the first full-length studio album by Rollins Band, fronted by ex-Black Flag singer, Henry Rollins. The album was produced by Ian MacKaye, well known in the genre of hardcore punk for his work with Minor Threat and as co-owner of the Dischord record label. MacKaye was also a childhood friend of Rollins, who acted as a roadie for MacKaye's band The Teen Idles. It was originally released in 1987 and included four live tracks recorded in Kortrijk, Belgium in October 1987.
Former Black Flag singer Henry Rollins kicked off his solo career with a two-fisted solo album that left nothing to chance. Where his former band's mid-'80s output never stopped twitting fans' expectations, Rollins opted for a hard-hitting linear focus that's direct and unsparing - especially when the target is himself.
