Souvlaki is the second studio album by the English rock band Slowdive. Recorded in 1992, it was released in the United Kingdom on 17 May 1993 by record label Creation, then on 8 February 1994 in the United States. The album peaked at number 51 on the UK Albums Chart, and, despite an initial mixed reception from critics, has since received acclaim and been hailed as a classic of the shoegazing genre.

Slowdive’s sophomore album is a benchmark shoegaze album and one of the defining records of the 90s. Watch the recent Pitchfork documentary for and oral story of the album and in-depth interviews with members of the band. Guitar Neil Halstead, Rachel Goswell & Christian Savill. Vocals Neil Halstead & Rachel Goswell. Keyboards Brian Eno. Drums Simon Scott.

Pretty much right there, you have Slowdive's "Alison" off their 1993 shoegaze work of art, Souvlaki. Blending dreamy pop melodies with fuzzy tremolo guitar static, Slowdive is one of the greatest contenders for acknowledgement as "the shoegaze band that's not My Bloody Valentine". In all fairness, the acute level of success Slowdive were able to fashion for themselves could not have been possible without Loveless.

This album has an average beat per minute of 127 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 65/197 BPM). See its BPM profile at the bottom of the page. BPM Profile Souvlaki. Talk about Slowdive - Souvlaki

Detenta
i have one in mint condition if anyone interested, send me a message.
Doomblade
amazing pressing for the price, sure it’s not an original copy, but for 20 bucks the sound quality is phenomenal.
salivan
I’m willing to spend £200-£300 on an original UK pressing, any sellers interested?
Kaghma
i might be willing to part with mine. cover vg+/ex-, Record ex.
Bloodray
Sell this to me. it has been in my wantlist for a year and has never once been for sale. i wanna get this version, not the US one with bonus tracks. Dagger ends this album perfectly.
Gosar
Anyone selling a copy of this? Would love to buy.
Trash Obsession
horrible artwork, text is re-typed with generic arial font, looks way more bootleg than the bootleg itself. GREAT sound though.
Runeterror
Picked this up on eBay in NM condition. Vinyl is utterly quiet and flat, dynamics are warm with really nice depth, discs are heavy weight in a double-wide slipcase. even the labels are professionally done. don't believe the haters who poo-poo this version, it's really lovely. my only gripe is the last few tracks are out of order if you've spent the last 20 years listening to the cd with expanded tracks -- missing you is, well, missing; so tired is great but i didn't really need mousakka chaos (it's the demo of souvlaki space station); and good day sunshine isn't supposed to be the final song. minor gripes though! with some concerted internetting you can find this too -- highly recommended. i like my music loud and this sounds amazing at full volume. (my systems: 1. pioneer sx-1050, marantz 6300 w/stanton 981HZS cart + Heresy II's. 2. pioneer sx-1010, marantz 6100 w/stantion 681EEE cart and Kef Reference 102s w/Kube.)

I've become quite enamored with Music On Vinyl reissues at this point, and have been seeking them out. The MOV crew from Holland just flat-out knows what the hell they are doing as far as sound and pressing quality goes. This is one stellar example of a reissue done right (the other being their pressing of Morphine's Cure For Pain, possibly the best sounding record I own). Reproducing this gauzy, shimmery, loud-quiet-loud shoegaze music has to be really difficult to nail, and really easy to allow it to turn into sonic mud, but they absolutely nail it. The only thing I'd have done differently? Bring back the 1994 US mostly-black cover artwork that has a more appealing abstractness to it, befitting a 4AD release. The original cover art as printed (also used for other reissues of this), with just a boring old pic of the band, is just dull.
Āłł_Ÿøūrš
Probably the best mixing/mastering out of any CD I own. Just wonderful. And one of my favorite albums (musically) too
TheMoonix
Sounds like they did a bang-up job with my copy. It has a slight warp, but is dead quiet other than some extremely light, and easily ignorable, crackle between songs. If you don't have $200-300+ to blow on an original copy, go for this!
NiceOne
I've been bamboozled! Picked this up at my local used book/record store last summer. I thought for sure it was a genuine Japanese print. What evs. Can't comment on the sound quality as I have an ever expanding vinyl collection yet no vinyl player as of yet. Anyways Slowdive is playing Dallas in a few days and I plan on bringing this album to get it signed. I just hope they don't reject it please god.
Urllet
Did they sign your lp ? How was Dallas ?
Uris
Even if the source is digital (Which seems to be consensus), this is a fantastic reissue. For much cheaper than an original copy, this vinyl is dead quiet and sounds great to my ears. Not to mention it comes in a heavy jacket with nice printing and poly-lined inner sleeves, highly recommended.
Kerahuginn
To my mind and heart, one of the best albums ever made. You can listen to thousands of complete albums that will never reach this level emotional power and depth. Thank you Slowdive, and whatever muses possessed you when you made this. Moussaka Chaos is better than the original (Souvlaki Space Station), but otherwise, it's a perfect record.
Balladolbine
The name of that muse, my friend, is Brian Eno.

Haven't heard the original LP or the MOV reissue but this sounds awesome to my ears - nice full sound and the bonus tracks make it worth your while. The artwork does have a greenish tinge but you'd never really pick it unless told. Recommended
Delagamand
Any word on whether Dead Oceans will reissue this or the other early albums in light of the new one?
happy light
5 years on and I'm still mesmerised by the sound quality of this reissue. I have a few original Slowdive records and they sound very similar. How they managed to replicate such a warm, soft sound from digital files I'll never know, but this is the first reissue of any record ever I remember being wow'ed by. Don't hesitate to buy this if you can't source an original.I've had this record for 5 years, and when I first got it I used to play it at least daily, if not up to 3 times a day. Although I play it less now, it is still silent between tracks and throughout, with no deterioration in the audio at all despite how much I used to play it (on a rubbish set up with a blunt stylus when I first started collecting). Although this LP is considerably more enjoyable on a decent set up with a fresh stylus, the quality wasn't lost on lesser expensive turntables, and I can safely say that the overall quality (both audio-wise and general wear and tear with age) of Music On Vinyl reissues is amazing - especially for the price. This sits proudly up there with my original pressing of Loveless and other Slowdive originals, and I feel no inclination to replace it anytime soon.
Very Old Chap
My copy has the side A label on both sides. Anyone else have this problem? Not really a big deal though, just have to look closely at what's etched on the vinyl.I think the sound quality is great, too.
Mardin
Was this even a real release? None for sale and a dozen claiming ownership.
Jorius
Getting some pops on side b starting with When the Sun Hits and keeps on going until about the middle of Dagger. Still an amazing album though.
Kecq
I don't care if this album was pressed from a digital source or whatever, it sounds gorgeous. It has great sound quality and dynamics, and it is dead silent even after 20+ spins and no wipe downs. I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for any releases of albums that I like pressed by MOV.
Phain
i bet if people knew that this was cut from dig files they'd all stfu about how good MOV is, they confirmed it themselves, "cut from 96 KHz, 24 bit"...
Deorro
Who cares? 96KHz/24-bit is way better quality than vinyl is capable of, so it's a great source for a qualified mastering engineer! Everything I've gotten from MOV has been very high quality.
SiIеnt
where else can you get these albums in 24/96 though?
Opimath
This version (MOVLP202) has good reviews, but I was hoping it would have deeper sound and it still sounds kind of light and tinny to me. Not what I was expecting, and a bit disappointing. I would love to hear the original pressing someday to compare!
Damand
I paid $300 to got this record. yes, it's a lots, but this is greater than ever!!
