1 Swingin' pop. Big band jazz. As a dance music promoter and agent, Goldkette also helped organize and promote McKinney's.

Calloway’s was among the most popular American jazz bands of the 1930s and they had a regular spot at the famed Cotton Club. Well, the Cotton Club closed in 1940 but Cab Calloway continued to perform in other venues. Among his best is Swingin’ New Big Band, recorded live and released in 1966. This record is the first to contain one of his greatest pieces, West Side Story Melody, a tour de force which showcases his drumming prowess as well as his ability to blend rhythm with his band’s playing.

In celebration of the 80th Anniversary, The Count Basie Orchestra releases its first Christmas album, A Very Swingin' Basie Christmas! The 19-piece band is accompanied with the guest vocals of Johnny Mathis on "It's The Holiday Season," Ledisi on "The Christmas Song" and Carmen Bradford on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. So with that I will say this is a really great album. It's Christmas with a nice jazzy edge and some great solos by the band. I am not a great fan of Holiday tunes, but even tunes I normally don't care for on this album get me going a bit! Let's Start with Jingle Bells. While the Basie Band had an arrangement of this back in the 1950's, this arrangement is updated and fresh and fits the current band well.

Album released in 1996 through Fat Wreck Chords. First punk show I went to was swingin utters opening for social distortion after this album came out 1997? I think. They played at the strand theater in providence, RI. Spent so many drunken nights in the little big city of providence like a mini Boston. I can't understand why these type of bands aren't way more popular. Lagwagon, millencolin and snuff are so insanely good. but I'm guessing the masses never have a chance to hear them. No use for a name Strung out Do you remember the first time you heard Good Riddance?
