Henry Weber Conducting The Chicago Symphony Orchestra - World Famous Overtures And Preludes ‎(LP, Album, Mono). Hollywood Records (9). LPH-127. 64. Silvertone Chorus And Orchestra, Henry Weber. Silvertone Chorus And Orchestra, Henry Weber - Christmas Carols ‎(12", Album, Red).

The Chicago Symphony has always been famous for its brass playing and Wagner, with Solti's recordings the standard for the industry. Barenboim has now surpassed that standard in a recording that will astonish those familiar with the difficulties of the music, setting a standard of excellence and musicality (with one exception)that will be hard to exceed. Here is another fit-for-consumption offering: Barenboim’s survey of Wagner’s Preludes and Overtures, recorded in the mid-90s with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I never thought that Wagner could be soporific but evidence to the contrary is at hand. I guess one could say that this album is not for the old-school, 1940's conducting method towards Wagner's music. However, is you are curious to find out what Wagner must of sounded during the Third Reich, or under Furtwängler with much better production quality, this is the album to check out.

Wagner: Preludes and Overtures Yakov Kreizberg & Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. Booklet for Wagner: Preludes and Overtures. Wagner was 17 years old when he first heard Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, a work which was to play a central role during his entire life, and which he was, for instance, to conduct in 1846 at the opening of the Festival Theatre in Bayreuth. Equally at home in the opera house he conducted productions at the Chicago Lyric Opera, Canadian Opera, English National Opera, Bregenz Festival, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, De Nederlandse Opera and the Royal Opera House. Next to these concerts, the majority of which take place in the world- famous acoustics of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra Amsterdam accompanies most of the performances of Netherlands Opera in the Amsterdam Muziektheater.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is consistently hailed as one of today’s leading orchestras. Led by renowned Italian conductor Riccardo Muti as its tenth music director, the CSO is working to fulfill his vision for the Orchestra-to deepen its engagement with the Chicago community, to nurture the legacy of the CSO while supporting a new generation of musicians, and to collaborate with visionary artists.

Nikisch took the London Symphony Orchestra on tour through the United States in April 1912, the first American tour by a European orchestra. He also made one of the earliest recordings of a complete symphony: the Beethoven Fifth with the Berlin Philharmonic in November 1913. Nikisch was also the first conductor to have his art captured on film – alas, silently. Conductors like Willem Mengelberg in Amsterdam until the end of World War II had had extensive rehearsal time to mold orchestras very precisely, and thus could have idiosyncratic techniques; modern conductors, who spend less time with any given orchestra, must get results with much less rehearsal time.
