Album · 2014 · 23 Songs. Just as its title implies, Saturday Night/Sunday Morning breaks down into a double album, with one half rocking things out at the honky tonk and the second part seeking redemption through soulful tunes with a gospel touch. Marty Stuart wraps all this in classic eled country music ( I’m Blue I’m Lonesome, When It Comes to Loving You ), guided by guitarist Kenny Vaughan. Things eventually move from the upbeat Boogie Woogie Down the Jericho Road to the slower, reflective tunes where the harmonies expand to gospel standards. Mavis Staples joins him for The Staples Singers’.

Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, ‘Saturday Night & Sunday Morning’. Release Date: September 30th More than just an exploration of two genres (traditional country on one disc and gospel music on the other), the new double album from Stuart is a tremendously entertaining continuation of his dedication to American music and a testament to the indisputable fact that he has one of the best bands working in any genre today. With disc two, Stuart and group's gospel tunes are sure to generate a lot of buzz, if only by virtue of the many artists who influenced them.

Saturday Night/Sunday Morning is a double album with Saturday Morning being disc 1. This is wear some righteous, greasy country music is played by a tight band of master musicians. When I first heard these new songs, they struck me as darker sounding. Not in subject matter, but Marty and Kenny's guitars had a darker sound overall. If you like Marty and his Superlatives, you'll like this disc. Track (Look At That Girl) on disc 1 strikes me as the best song U2 has written in a long time. Now, U2 doesn't have anything to do with this album, but somehow, Marty and Co. were able to combine the best elements of Joshua Tree era U2 and package it up in Superlative/country fashion. Disc 2, Sunday Morning is the gospel side of this double album.
