The Lilac Time is a British alternative folk-rock band that was originally formed in Herefordshire, England by Stephen Duffy, his brother Nick Duffy and their friend Michael Weston in 1986. The band's name was taken from a line in the Nick Drake song "River Man". Since its formation, The Lilac Time has gone through various line-up changes, with the Duffy brothers as mainstays. The band's activity has intertwined with Stephen Duffy's solo and songwriting career.

It was recorded by well over a hundred top artists, including Louis Armstrong, Skitch Henderson, Guy Lombardo, The London Symphony Orchestra, opera star John McCormack, Mitch Miller, The Platters, Lawrence Welk, and Paul Whiteman.

Along the journey he reunites his critically acclaimed band The Lilac Time to play the Green Man Festival in Wales, and rediscovers what it was originally about. We used to do it for the love, didn't we. People have forgotten that. Duffy wanders as far as Cornwall before rediscovering meaningful poetic life. Sculptor Jon Edgar makes an appearance as he forms a terra cotta head of Duffy, who he believes will remain one of the key figures in arts and culture for future generations

The album consists of ten tracks, each one uniquely showcasing Emma’s pitched down vocals; a deeper tenor than her clear soprano register heard on previous albums. Emma calls this register Joseph, and sang as Joseph for an entire album for the first time on Lilac Everything. The inspiration to create in a deeper pitch reaches back to 2013, when Emma recorded a few songs with these toned-down vocals. Her ability to create and sing ethereal, spellbinding lyrics and melodies is only further exemplified by this newest project.
