Album · 2011 · 9 Songs. That’s all well and good but Party Store really comes alive on Bug In the Bass Bin. A literal duet between yesterday and today, it marches off into the sunset alongside the synth washes of Carl Craig (he originally released the song under his Innerzone Orchestra alias), Collins’ violent guitar spasms, and a rhythm section that sounds like it’s scoring a battle scene. And like the best techno tracks, it doesn't loosen its grip for at least 20 minutes. Party Store The Dirtbombs.
2011 release from the Detroit Garage rockers. Nearly 10 years after their album Ultraglide in Black helped kick-start a renewed interest in all things Detroit and Rock 'n' Roll, The Dirtbombs release this de facto companion piece. Where Ultraglide was a covers collection of '60s and '70s Soul gems, Party Store is an assortment of live-band interpretations of classic Detroit Techno music of the '80s and early '90s.

The Dirtbombs enjoyed a boost in recognition after the release of their second album, Ultraglide in Black, in 2001, a collection of nearly all soul, R & B, and Motown covers, with one original track - "Your Love Belongs Under A Rock". Around this time, a garage rock revival became vibrant in the American and European underground, led in part by fellow Detroit band the White Stripes, and the Dirtbombs were part of a multitude of Detroit bands that subsequently received attention from the music industry. A sequel of sorts to Ultraglide In Black, Party Store features rock covers of early Detroit techno and house music Ooey Gooey Chewy Ka-blooey! (2013).
Mick Collins' love of Detroit techno may come as a surprise to those who know him only as the guitar-strangling frontman of the Dirtbombs, but coming of age as he did in Detroit, it was hard not to be swept up in the sounds coming out of the clubs and filling the bins in local record stores. Men like Derrick May, Juan Atkins, and Kevin Saunderson were heroes to a generation of Detroit music fans, and Collins was no exception.
